AM: Bus from office to airport.
PM: Flight JS152 from Beijing to Pyongyang, 13:00 departure, arrive Pyongyang 16:00, meet your Korean guides who will accompany you during your stay. En route to the hotel stop off at the Arch of Triumph - similar to the French version (but bigger) - commemorates the liberation from Japanese rule, Fountain Park, Mansudae Grand Monument (giant statues of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il), MASS GAMES after dinner
OVERNIGHT: Yanggakdo Hotel, Pyongyang

Wed 14th Aug

AM: Drive to Kaesong (an historical city near the DMZ which avoided being destroyed in the Korean War - 2.5 hrs drive), Panmunjom/DMZ (where North and South Korea continues their decades old face-off), Koryo Museum (former Confucian college, shows history of the area)
PM: Tomb of King Kongmin (dynastic king of Korea), Concrete Wall (South Korean anti-tank barrier deep in the DMZ), Walk in the old city, Jannam Hill and local park, old city gate
OVERNIGHT: Minsok Hotel, Kaesong(beautiful courtyard hotel where guests sleep on heated floors in traditional Korean style)

AM: DPRK HOLIDAY: Liberation Day – Return to Pyongyang, Juche Tower (150m stone monument allowing for stunning views over Pyongyang from the top), Kim Il Sung Square - Pyongyang’s largest square in the heart of the city
PM: Moranbong Park, Local funfair, Golden Lane Bowling Centre - great for mixing with the citizenry, expected Mass Dance on Kim Il Sung Square
OVERNIGHT: Yanggakdo Hotel, Pyongyang

Fri 16th Aug

AM: Charter Flight to Mt. Paekdu (1 hr), Drive to Mountain and ascend to the top by funicular railway (highest peak in Korea), picnic lunch at crater lake (highest in the world)
PMPaekdusan Secret Camp (official birthplace of Kim Jong Il), Rimyongsu waterfalls, Samjiyon Town
OVERNIGHT: Pegaebong Hotel, Samjiyon

Sat 17th Aug

AM: Samji School, Samjiyon Grand Monument, drive to Pochonbo (site of significant battle between Korean guerilla army and Japanese forces), picnic lunch at the battle monument
PM: Return to Samjiyon for flight to Pyongyang, Paradise micro-brewery & bar
OVERNIGHT: Yanggakdo Hotel, Pyongyang

Sun 18th Aug

AM: Kumsusan Memorial Palace (Mausoleum of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il), Revolutionary Martyrs’ Cemetery (bronze busts of anti-Japanese heroes), Pyongyang Folk Village (newly opened park full of scale models showcases Korea’s heritage from the past to the present day)
PM: Mangyongdae Native House, Mansudae Art Studio (where paintings, mosaics, statues, etc are made), Pyongyang Metro (extended ride on the world’s deepest underground system),
OVERNIGHT: Yanggakdo Hotel, Pyongyang

Mon 19th Aug

AM: Drive to Nampo, Chollima Steel Works (the country’s most iconic factory), Tae'an Heavy Machine Tool Complex, Tae’an Glass Factory (opened by Hu Jintao in 2005)
PM: Local Orphanage, West Sea Barrage - 8km long long dam seperating the Taedong river from the West Sea
of Korea , City Centre visit in this West Coast port city , drive to Hot Springs Guesthouse
OVERNIGHT: Ryonggang Hot Spa Hotel, Nampo

Tue 20th Aug

AM: Return to Pyongyang along ‘Youth Hero Highway’, Military Exhibition Centre (newly opened display of military hardware)
PM: 3 Revolutions Exhibition (showing the nation’s industrial progress), Schoolchildren’s Palace tour and performance, drive to Mount Myohyang
OVERNIGHT: Chongchon Hotel, Mt. Myohyang

Wed 21st Aug

AM: International Friendship Exhibition (giant subterranean halls of gifts to the DPRK’s leaders), Buddhist Temple, picnic in the mountains
PM: Light hike, return to Pyongyang via Ryongmun caves , Taedong department store (option to visit local sauna/swimming pool you can use with the locals) and local bar nearby, farewell dinner
OVERNIGHT: Yanggakdo Hotel, Pyongyang

Thu 22nd Aug

Plane option
AM: Flight JS251 departure Pyongyang 10:30AM, arrival Beijing 11:30AM. End of Tour.

Train option (non-US citizens)
AM: Train from Pyongyang departs at 10:10AM
PM: Cross border at Sinuiju/Dandong
OVERNIGHT: On train

Fri 23rd Aug

AM: Train arrives Beijing 08:34AM. End of tour.

EXPECTED WEATHER: It will be hot and and humid around this time with possible rain showers, around 20-25° C Raincoat/umbrella advised!

TOUR FEE INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:

  3. All meals on the tour except on the train out of DPRK – see below

NOT INCLUDED IN THE TOUR FEE (all payments paid in cash) :

  2. Travel insurance (can be purchased at the pre-tour briefing)
  3. Optional single room supplement of $60 per night (must be booked in advance and can be pre-paid in US with credit card)
  4. Spending money for drinks and souvenirs
  5. DPRK visa fee ($75)
  6. Tip for the guides (approx $7/day)
  7. Meals on the train out of DPRK - (bring your own food or eat dinner and lunch in the buffet car approx $10 per person)
  8. Entry tickets for Mass Games (paid at the gate) Mass Games seating chart or other special events (Revolutionary opera, circus , etc).
  9. The lift up the Juche Tower (approx $6)
  10. Meals will have a complimentary beer but you will have to pay for extra drinks above those provided. If you are vegetarian or have special dietary requirements then please inform us beforehand
