Itinerary – National Day Short Tour

September 5-10 2019

Wed 4 Sep – MANDATORY PRE-TOUR BRIEFING

 

4PM: The group assembles in our Beijing office for a pre-tour briefing, which will last approximately 1 hour and is designed so that you will get the best out of your tour.

 

Thu 5 Sep – ARRIVAL DAY


AM:
Meet together outside the office (time to be confirmed) and head to Beijing Airport T2 for our flight from Beijing to Pyongyang (1.5 hrs), the showcase capital of the DPRK
PM: Meet guides who will accompany you during your stay, Arch of Triumph – similar to the French version (but bigger)
OVERNIGHT: Yanggakdo Hotel, Pyongyang

 

Fri 6 Sep – KAESONG & DMZ


AM:
Drive south along the ‘Reunification Highway’ to Kaesong (2.5 hours). Walk through the old and traditional style streets of Kaesong city. Panmunjom/DMZ (where North and South Korea continues their decades old face-off), Koryo Museum (former Confucian college, shows history of the area), local park and pavilion
PM: Concrete Wall – South Korean anti-tank barrier deep in the DMZ. Return to Pyongyang (2.5 hours), Farewell dinner at Duck BBQ restaurant
OVERNIGHT: Yanggakdo Hotel, Pyongyang

Sat 7 Sep – PYONGYANG CITY TOUR


AM: Mansudae Art Studio
– The DPRK’s centre of artistic excellence, where the majority of sculptures, mosaics, and paintings around the country are made. Ride 6 stations on the Pyongyang Metro – One of the deepest metro systems in the world with stunning artwork reflecting the name of each station. Grand People’s Study House – National library and public university in traditional Korean style with great views of Kim Il Sung Square.
PM: Kwangbok Supermarket (where you can spend and change your money into Korean Won at the black market exchange rate), Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum (Korean War Museum) and captured in 1968 spy ship USS Pueblo, Drive 1 hour west to Nampo.

Sun 8 Sep – NAMPO – PYONGYANG


AM: 
West Sea Barrage – An 8 km concrete, steel, and earthen barrage constructed between the Taedong River delta and the West Sea. Chongsan-Ri Cooperative Farm – Famous cooperative farm on the road between Pyongyang and Nampo. Kangso Mineral Water Factory – Bottling plant of the DPRK’s most famous spring water. Drive back to Pyongyang on the Youth Hero Highway.

M: Tower of the Juche Idea – Iconic tower dedicated to the DPRK’s guiding philosophy on the Taedong River. Monument to the Party Foundation – Iconic structure featuring the hammer, sickle, writing brush.Golden Lane Bowling Centre – Where Pyongyang locals go for their ten-pin fix. Also has billiards and arcade games. Non-bowlers can head next door to the Kumrung Leisure Centre for an airgun shooting range and some of the best coffee in Pyongyang. Farewell dinner at Duck Barbeque Restaurant – South Pyongyang’s famous grilled duck restaurant.

Mon 9 Sep – NATIONAL DAY CELEBRATIONS!


AM:
DPRK HOLIDAY – NATIONAL DAY  Kumsusan Memorial Palace (Mausoleum of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il), Fountain Park, Mansudae Grand Monument (giant statues of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il), Mangyongdae Native House (birthplace of Kim Il Sung),Mangyongdae Funfair
PM:
Picnic lunch with the locals in Moranbong Park, Juche Tower (150m stone monument allowing for stunning views over Pyongyang from the top), Party Foundation Monument (sculpture of hammer, sickle and calligraphy brush commemorating 50 years of the Workers’ Party rule), expected Mass Dance in Kim Il Sung Square, Golden Lane Bowling Centre – where Pyongyangers go for their ten-pin fix, also has some early 90s arcade games. There is also a shooting range next door where you can fire 20 rounds for $6. We’ll round off the holiday celebrations with a well-deserved drink at Taedonggang Number 3 Bar! Kaeson Youth Funfair!

Tue 10 Sep – DEPARTURE DAY


AM
:  The flight departs Pyongyang at 08:30 and arrives in Beijing at approx 10:00am. The train departs Pyongyang at 10:10am and arrives in Beijing at approx 08:30am next morning. End of tour.

DPRK VISA FEE: $75
PRE-TOUR MEETING: Wed 4th September, 4PM, at our office in Beijing
EXPECTED WEATHER: It will be hot and and humid around this time with possible rain showers, around 20-25° C Raincoat/umbrella advised!

TOUR FEE INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:

1. Flight Beijing-Pyongyang, train Pyongyang-Beijing

2. All meals on the tour except on the train out of DPRK – see below

3. Hotel accommodations in DPRK

4. All entry fees

5. Two guides and a driver per group

6. All transportation in DPRK

7. Transportation to Beijing airport prior to departure to DPRK.

NOT INCLUDED IN THE TOUR FEE (all payments paid in cash) :

1. Transportation from your country to Beijing and hotel stay in Beijing

2. Travel insurance (can be purchased at the pre-tour briefing)

3. Optional flight return Pyongyang-Beijing $100 extra surcharge.

4. Optional single room supplement of $60 per night (must be booked in advance and can be pre-paid in US with credit card)

5. Spending money for drinks and souvenirs

6. DPRK visa fee ($75)

7. Tip for the guides (approx $7/day)

8. Meals on the train out of DPRK – (bring your own food or eat dinner and lunch in the buffet car approx $10 per person)

9. Entry tickets for special events (Revolutionary opera, circus , etc).

10. The lift up the Juche Tower (approx $6)
