Fri 27 Sep – MANDATORY PRE-TOUR BRIEFING


4PM:
The group assembles in our Beijing office for a pre-tour briefing, which will last approximately 1 hour and is designed so that you will get the best out of your tour.

ARRIVAL DAY


AM
: Meet together outside our office (time to be confirmed) and head to Beijing Airport T2 for our flight from Beijing to Pyongyang (1.5 hrs), the showcase capital of the DPRK

PM: Meet guides who will accompany you during your stay, Arch of Triumph – similar to the French version (but bigger)
OVERNIGHT: Yanggakdo Hotel, Pyongyang

 

Sun 29 Sep – PYONGYANG CITY TOUR


AM:
Kumsusan Memorial Palace of the Sun,where North Korean leaders Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il lie in state. Revolutionary Martyrs’ Cemetery. Here, you will see superb individually- crafted bronze busts of the country’s anti-Japanese heroes, including one of Kim Jong Suk (the mother of Kim Jong Il). Foreign Languages Bookshop and take a leisurely stroll through the streets of Pyongyang. On our journey, we walk through the heart of the city, and stop by Kim Il Sung Square. This is where the capital’s mass dances take place and the military parades pass through. Rride on the Pyongyang Metro, which is the deepest subway system in the world. The designs of the main stations are stunning, and particularly notable for their superb lighting and mosaics.

PM: Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum where you can learn the history of the Korean War from the North Korean perspective. USS Pueblo – an American spy ship captured by the DPRK navy in 1968, Drive to our overnight stop at Mt Myohyang, the Mountain of Mysterious Fragrance, two hours north of Pyongyang.

Mon 30 Sep – MT MYOHYANG

 

AM: International Friendship Exhibition. Built in 1978, these two huge subterranean halls are filled with gifts to the leaders Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il, presented to them by people from all over the world, including heads of state, as well as ordinary citizens. Pohyon Buddhist Temple. It was destroyed during the Korean War, but was rebuilt as a working temple, complete with North Korean monks.

PM: After lunch we’ll make our way back to Pyongyang. Shooting Range (5 USD for 20 bullets if you want to have a go!)

Tue 1 Oct – PYONGYANG CITY TOUR

 

AM: Mansudae Grand Monuments – the giant bronze statues of North Korean leaders Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il. Juche Tower. At 150m, and topped with a flickering red torch, this is the highest stone monument in the world. Party Foundation Monument – aniconic sculpture of a hammer, sickle and calligraphy brush which was constructed to celebrate 50 years of Workers’ Party rule. Kwangbok Supermarket (where you can spend and change your money into Korean Won at the black market exchange rate).

PM: Mangyongdae Native House – the native birthplace of President Kim Il Sung. Next on our itinerary is a trolley bus ride around the city, in some of the classic 1950s vehicles that still ply their trade on the streets of the DPRK capital. Grand People’s Study House Supposedly stocked with over 3 million books, this enormous library/place of study has a great view over Kim Il Sung Square. We then drive south to the historic city of Kaesong and check into our hotel before dinner.

Wed 2 Oct – PANMUNJOM/DMZ & KAESONG

 

AM: Walk from the hotel though the old streets of Kaesong up to Janam Hill. Statue of Kim Il Sung and local park, Panmunjom/DMZ – boundary between North and South Korea, Kaesong Koryo Museum – preserved Confucian museum in the old part of town, local park & pavilion

PM: Tomb of King Kongmin – beautiful twin-domed tomb of the31st King of the Koryo Dynasty and his Mongolian wife and a local park and pavilion, Return to Pyongyang (2.5 hours), Golden Lane Bowling Centre, where Pyongyang’s residents go for their ten-pin fix. There is also a shooting range next door where you can fire 20 rounds for $6. Finally it’s time for a well deserved drink at Taedonggang No3 Microbrewery and bar before Dinner in Pyongyang’s famous duck BBQ restaurant.

Thu 3 Oct – NAMPO


AM: Pyongyang Feature Film Studios
– also known as Chollywood – see the sets used in the DPRK’s feature films, Mansudae Art Studio – where paintings, mosaics, statues, etc are made, Lamb BBQ lunch at Mt Ryonggak
PMDrive 40 min to West Coast city of Nampo, Kangso Mineral Water Factory – where naturally-carbonated water being bottled, Chongsan-Ri Cooperative Farm – the DPRK’s most famous farm, West Sea Barrage – 8km long dam seperateing the Taeding river from the West Sea of Korea.
OVERNIGHT: Ryonggang Hot Spa Hotel, Nampo

 

Fri 4 Oct – ANJU AND PYONGSON

AM: Drive to Anju, a rarely visited industrial city in North Pyongan Province. Paeksang Pavilion and Anju City Walls | A short stop at the greatest pavilion in Pyong’an Province overlooking the Chongchon River. Rebuilt after destruction in the Korean War. Continue to Pyongsong, centre of education and technology research. Pyongsong Primary School  | A local primary school with tour of classrooms, demonstration rooms, dance and music halls, and gymnasium. See the school’s award-winning dance troupe and take on the schoolchildren in ping-pong, a sport this school specializes in teaching.
PM: Return to Pyongyang. Pyongyang Catfish Factory | A full-scale facility where you can learn about the fascinating science of catfish production. Golden Lanes Bowling Centre | Where Pyongyang locals go for their ten-pin fix (2.5 EUR per person per game). Also has billiards and arcade games. Non-bowlers can head next door to the Kumrung Leisure Centre for an air gun shooting range) and some of the best coffee in Pyongyang.

Thu 5 Oct – DEPARTURE DAY

AM:
The flight departs Pyongyang at 10:00am and arrives in Beijing at approx 11:30am. The train departs Pyongyang at 10:40am and arrives in Beijing at approx 08:30am next morning. End of Tour

EXPECTED WEATHER: It will be cool in the morenings and evenings but warm during the day, around 20°C.

TOUR FEE INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:

NOT INCLUDED IN THE TOUR FEE (all payments paid in cash) :

3. Travel insurance (can be purchased at the pre-tour briefing)

4. Optional single room supplement of $60 per night (must be booked in advance and can be pre-paid in US with credit card)

5. Spending money for drinks and souvenirs

6. DPRK visa fee ($75)

7. Tip for the guides (approx $7/day)

8. Meals on the train out of DPRK – (bring your own food or eat dinner and lunch in the buffet car approx $10 per person)

9. Entry tickets for special events (Revolutionary opera, circus , etc).
